Advanced Intestinal Barrier Assessment
The Advanced IBA profile is the only test designed to directly measure leaky gut.
Clinicians often use food sensitivity testing or even stool testing to indirectly assess the health of the gut lining, but these are direct markers of a leaky gut. The IBA measures the three areas most connected to gut permeability, Zonulin, DAO, and LPS.
Plasma Zonulin is a well-documented marker of permeability, as it is the trigger that causes tight junctions to open, creating a leaky gut. However, there are other ways we become leaky. You can also wear the gut lining down, creating atrophy, as in the overuse of NSAIDs.
Low diamine oxidase shows the thickness of the gut lining and also lets the clinician know if the patient’s ability to degrade histamine is compromised. A ratio of Histamine to DAO is also provided to elucidate whether or not the patient has the correct balance between histamine and the enzyme degrading it, DAO.
Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) are endotoxins produced by gram-negative bacteria. LPS antibodies go up when the patient is fighting LPS at levels that break down tight junctions and result in permeability. This test measures all the significant ways in which the gut becomes leaky.

Methodology
ELISA
Precision Point Diagnostics’ Advanced Intestinal Barrier Assessment takes a deep dive into intestinal barrier function. Using a collection of innovative biomarkers, this test helps clinicians determine if their patients have intestinal permeability, or “leaky gut.” Intestinal permeability has been suggested as a root cause of autoimmune diseases, systemic inflammation, and food sensitivities. Healing the gut barrier is so pivotal for resolving chronic disease that if it isn’t addressed, other treatments will have little to no effect.
The Advanced Intestinal Barrier Assessment stands out for its unique, clinically relevant markers which tell a complex story about gut barrier health. Histamine and diamine oxidase (DAO) give information about histamine balance and gut mucosal health. Plasma Zonulin is a well-documented marker of intestinal tight junctions and is the preferred specimen for assessment. Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) are endotoxins produced by gram-negative bacteria. LPS antibodies give information about inflammation and intestinal permeability.
Precision Point Diagnostic’s Advanced Intestinal Barrier Assessment allows you to identify imbalances associated with increased intestinal permeability, often referred to as “leaky gut”. The results can help guide treatment protocols and progress can then be monitored over time.
Patients with allergies, food sensitivities, digestive symptoms, headache, cognitive decline, depression, and more can benefit from this test.
