Acetyl-L-Carnitine
The acetyl derivative of L-carnitine. Acetyl-L-carnitine is involved in the metabolism of protein, carbohydrates and fats, as well as the conversion of fats into energy. Acetyl-L-carnitine crosses the blood-brain barrier more readily than L-carnitine. It has antioxidant properties and supports glutathione and CoQ10 levels. Free form amino acid, high purity, well-tolerated.
Description
The acetyl derivative of L-carnitine. Like L-carnitine, acetyl-L-carnitine is involved in the metabolism of protein, carbohydrates and fats, as well as the conversion of fats into energy and triglyceride metabolism. Acetyl-L-carnitine crosses the blood brain barrier more readily than L-carnitine, has antioxidant properties, and because it has an affinity for nerve cells, may especially provide antioxidant protection for neuronal integrity.
Why Support With Supplements?
Acetyl-L-carnitine supplementation has been shown to support glutathione and CoQ10 levels. It mimics acetylcholine and therefore may positively affect the brain chemistry involved with memory and moods, as well as energy production in the brain. Free form amino acid, high purity, well tolerated.
The main function of L-carnitine is to transfer long-chain fatty acids in the form of their acyl-carnitine esters across the inner mitochondrial membrane before beta-oxidation. In humans it is synthesized in the liver, kidney, and brain and actively transported to other areas of the body. For example, 98% of the total body L-carnitine is confined to the skeletal and cardiac muscle at concentrations approximately 70 times higher than in the blood serum.

Ingredients: Acetyl-L-Carnitine HCL, Microcrystalline Cellulose (E460i), Silicon Dioxide (E551), L-leucine. Capsule Shell: Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (E464).
Supportive Recommendations
Avoid obvious sources of pollution, toxins and fumes. Air your house. Consume whole, fresh foods, and minimise all forms of refined sugar and carbohydrates and processed foods. Drink plenty of filtered water.
Cautions & Contraindications
It is advised not to use L-carnitine preparations without specification of the producer and of the % D-carnitine impurity and to use only preparations with enantiomeric purity of ≥99%. L-carnitine is safe and no significant complications appear to have been reported in human clinical studies.
Use cautiously in patients with peripheral vascular disease due to accumulation of acyl carnitine in plasma.
Use cautiously in patients with hypertension due to accumulation in hypertrophied hearts of hypertensive rats.
Use cautiously in patients with alcohol-induced liver cirrhosis, due to increased total and acyl carnitine.
Use cautiously in low birth weight infants due to potential for decreased weight gain.
Use cautiously in individuals with diabetes due to potential for increase in triglycerides.
Use cautiously in individuals on hemodialysis due to potential for increase in triglycerides and increased platelet aggregation.
Use cautiously in patients taking anticoagulants, beta-blockers, or calcium channel blockers
